Pharmacy Technician
Pharmacy Technicians work under the supervision of licensed pharmacists to perform technical and clerical duties in the systematic operation of the pharmacy. Pharmacy technician’s duties may include compounding medicinal drugs, preparing and labeling medicines, filling bottles and capsules with the correct quantity of medicine, issuing medicines to the customers, maintaining inventory, and keeping patients’ medication profiles in specified records or forms.

Work Environment:
Employment is found a variety of pharmacy settings, including retail, mail order, and hospital pharmacies

Job Outlook:
Job opportunities are expected to be good, especially for those with certification or previous work experience.

Licensure/Certification:
Completion of the course prepares students to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification test.

Salary:
Average annual salary range is $20,000-$45,000.

Program Offerings:
The Pharmacy Technician Program is a 72 hour course (12 weeks) designed to teach students the fundamentals and particulars of being a pharmacy technician. The program is geared towards a variety of students including those interested in becoming pharmacy technicians, pre-pharmacy students, or those with a healthcare background looking to strengthen their current skills. This class introduces students to various pharmacy practice settings and covers drug classes, basic physiology, drug interactions, and daily pharmacy operations. This program trains individuals to effectively assist in pharmaceutical preparations and complete daily required tasks in any pharmacy environment, although on the job training is still a crucial part of the educational process.
