Perioperative Nurse
Perioperative Nurses provide patient care during the preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative phases of the patient's surgical experience. They provide pre- and post-operative teaching to patients and their families, perform patient assessment, identify desired patient outcomes, circulate, scrub, and assist during the patient’s surgical intervention.

Work Environment:
Employment is found in the inpatient or outpatient surgical departments of hospitals or surgicenters, endoscopy centers, cardiac cath labs, or surgeons' offices.

Job Outlook:
Perioperative Nurse positions are increasing with the demand for more health care. The present and future outlook for this occupation is very optimistic.

Licensure/Certification:
Certification through Certification Board Perioperative Nursing is available after two years experience working in the operating room.

Salary:
Perioperative Nurses earn $18.00 to $31.00 an hour, or about $38,700 to $64,400 annually.

Program Offerings:
GateWay Community College offers a one semester Certificate of Completion in Peroperative Nursing. The certification program combines class work with practical hospital experience to prepare you for employment.
