Registered Nurse
Registered Nurses (RNs) observe patients to assess symptoms, reactions
to treatment, and progress. They administer medications, perform therapeutic
procedures, and instruct patients and their families in proper healthcare
practices. Registered nurses supervise Licensed Practical Nurses, nurse
assistants, patient care assistants, and home health aides.
Work Environment:
Employment is found in hospitals, physicians’ offices, health
maintenance organizations, public health departments, community clinics,
schools, retirement centers, home health agencies, and other community
organizations.
Job Outlook:
The need for Registered Nurses is at an all time high. In Arizona, employment of registered nurses is expected to grow by 39% between 2002 and 2012. This is one of the largest occupations, with almost 3000 new RN jobs in Arizona over the next few years. (http://www.acinet.org)
Licensure/Certification:
Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible to sit for
the Registered Nurse licensure exam offered by the Arizona State Board
of Nursing.
* The title of Registered Nurse may only be used after successfully
meeting the State Board of Nursing licensure requirements.
Salary:
RNs can earn between $20.25 to $37.00 an hour for an average annual salary of $42,300 to $77,000 (not including overtime, shift differentials, or bonuses).

The Maricopa Community Colleges offer an Associate of Applied Science
degree in Nursing. The program is offered at nine locations: Chandler-Gilbert
