Radiation Therapist
Radiation therapists are vital members of the healthcare team using radiation to treat cancer and some benign diseases. Major responsibilities of a radiation therapist include implementation of a planned course of treatment, construction of accessory devices, and providing patient education, care and comfort. Radiation tehrapists must be accurate, pay attention to detail, take initiative, have the ability to work independently and enjoy working with people.

Work Environment:
Employment is found in hospitals, research centers, and free-standing clinics

Career opportunities for Radiation Therapists can be found in hospitals, research centers, and free-standing clinics. Additional experience and education can aid in the advancement of the therapists to administration, education, research, or commercial sales.

Licensure/Certification:
Upon successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to take the national board examination for certification in Radiation Therapy, which is administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. (http://www.arrt.org)

Salary:
Radiation Therapists earn, on average, $18.50 to $24.25 per hour, for an average annual salary of $38,500 to $50,400.

Program Offerings:
GateWay Community College offers a Certificate of Completion in Radiation Therapy Technology. The program combines class work with on site clinical training in various facilities throughout the valley.
