Surgical Technologist
Surgical Technologists are members of the surgical team and work with surgeons, nurses, and other surgical personnel before, during and after an operation. They prepare the surgical suite preoperatively, assist the surgeon during the operative procedure, and ready supplies and equipment for upcoming surgical procedures.

Work Environment:
Employment is found in hospital operating rooms, some are employed in outpatient surgical centers, emergency rooms, urgent care centers, physicians’ offices and other facilities.

Job Outlook:
The Arizona job market for both Surgical Technologists and Surgical Technologists First Assistants is expected to expand by about 5.4% per year. Approximately 70 new jobs will open in this field each year.

Licensure/Certification:
Upon completion of the certificate program, students may take the exam for certification as a Surgical Technologist.

Salary:
Surgical Technologists earn from $15 to $26 an hour for an average annual salary of $31,000 to $54,000.

Program Offerings:
GateWay Community College offers a Certificate of Completion in Surgical Technology in approximately one year or take two to earn an Associates in Applied Science Degree.
