| Healthcare Education : Assessment Development and Consultation
Healthcare Education's Student Assessment Support Services offers Maricopa Community Colleges faculty the opportunity to partner with the ICAN Director in the
research and selection of appropriate assessment tools for many different applications. Support services are available for:
- Assisting in the selection of appropriate assessment instruments
- Developing customized assessment tools for specialized applications
- Developing test items
- Evaluating assessment instruments related to outcomes for unique populations
- Assisting in planning programs for advanced placement
- Other assessment applications as requested

Selecting Assessment Instruments:
Assessment instruments (written examinations, performance and skills
tests, etc.) are available on the market for many different applications.
Instruments are available for:
- Program admission
- Remediation
- Advanced placement
- Program exit
- Pre-licensing
- Employee selection (graduate skills determination)
- Other applications
The ICAN Director can assist you in doing
a literature search to find available assessment tools appropriate for you particular interests. Tools will be
reviewed for validity, reliability, and a match for target competencies.
The results of the search and review will be provided to you and may
be helpful to additional faculty, program directors, and community agencies.
Developing Assessment Tools:
In certain instances where program curriculum is very specialized, existing assessment tools may not
be available for purchase. Assistance may be provided in coordinating a team of content experts to develop customized tools that may include:
- Multiple choice exams
- Skills assessments
- Assessment tools for clinical placement
- Writing skills tests
- Assessment interviews
- Other assessment tools
Assistance in follow up evaluation of validity and reliability of custom developed assessment tools may also be provided.
